Which trips are free for small children?

Are there minimum ages?

A few. Rafting needs children to be six. The early Similan boat, with its half-past-three wake-up, is not recommended for children under four. Cheow Lan lake, the card says, suits children from about three. To drive a jet ski you must be eighteen. What do kids get for the child price?

The same day as the adults. Transfer from the hotel, the boat, lunch, life jackets, masks and snorkels on snorkelling trips, the guide and insurance come with the child price too. Is the child price the same on two-day trips?

The same age band: 4 to 9. The hotel night on Phi Phi Don, the dinner, breakfast and two lunches are covered for the child as for the adult. Room allocation is done by the hotel reception on the island, so tell us in advance if you need a particular arrangement.

On the two-day trips the evening programme — the fire show, the beach bars — is optional. With children, dinner and the show from the sand is plenty; the rest can wait for another holiday.

Which days do children enjoy most?

The stops that suit children best, going by the programmes: Khai island, where fish swim right up to the sand; the elephant days, where children bathe and feed the elephants alongside the adults; and Coral island from Rawai, a day short enough to finish before the afternoon heat. What should I tell you when booking with kids?

Ages, not just the number of children. The age decides the price, the size of the life jacket and the seat in the transfer. If the child is ten, the adult price applies — people are sometimes surprised by that, so better to know now.
