Is the Coral Island Half-Day Trip from Phuket Worth It?

By the PhuketGO tour desk on Phuket — we book and run these trips every week · Updated 12 October 2026

For the right people, yes. The Coral Island trip from Rawai is half a day, the crossing is thirty minutes, and lunch, park fee and snorkelling gear are in the price. If you want famous bays or the clearest water, spend the day on something longer.

Prices come straight from our booking system. Children under four join free on most trips — each tour page says so.

    What happens on the day?

The Coral island trip from Rawai pier meets at Rawai pier at 08:30 with coffee and tea (the hotel pickup is earlier). The boat leaves at nine and lands at Coral Beach around 09:30. From then until noon the beach is yours: swimming, sand, and the water sports if you want them. Lunch on the island at twelve, seafood and Thai dishes. At one the boat crosses to Hin Dam bay on the far side of the island for snorkelling, and at two you're back at the pier.

That's the whole trip, and that's the point of it. It's the shortest sea day we sell.

Who is it worth it for?

Families with small children, first and foremost. A short crossing, a shallow beach and a return before the afternoon heat and tiredness stack up. Children aged 4 to 9 pay the child price and under-fours go free, without a separate seat or meals.

It also suits the first day after a long flight, anyone nervous about boats, and people staying in the south of the island near Rawai who want the sea without a whole day on the road. If you're here for a short trip and want both a sea morning and an evening out, this fits.

    • →Toddlers and young children
    • →The first day after arrival
    • →Anyone who gets seasick on long crossings
    • →Travellers who want the afternoon free

    Who should pick something else?

If you only have one sea day on Phuket, this is probably not it. Phi Phi gives you Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon and Bamboo island; the Similans give you the best snorkelling in reach (in season). Coral is busier than the far islands and the water isn't in the same league.

If you like the idea but want more water time, the Racha and Coral islands speedboat adds Racha Yai in the morning (Patok Bay, clearer water) before the afternoon on Coral. And the Racha and Coral sunrise trip gets you onto Racha Yai at 06:40, before anyone else, with deep-water fishing mid-morning and lunch on Coral.

    What costs extra?

Very little. The national park fee, transfer, lunch, soft drinks, life jackets, masks, insurance and an English-speaking guide are included. What you pay on the spot: the beach water sports (parasailing, banana boat and similar, run by local operators), souvenirs and alcohol. Bring cash if you want any of it. The current trip price is in the table on this page.

Bring swimwear under your clothes, a beach towel (towels aren't included), a change of clothes, sunscreen, a hat and motion sickness tablets if anyone needs them.

Is Rawai pier easy to get to?

You don't need to get there yourself: the transfer from your hotel is included, and it's earlier than the 08:30 meeting time (the manager confirms it when you book). Rawai is in the far south of Phuket, which is exactly why this crossing is so short.

If you're staying near Rawai or Nai Harn, the drive to the pier is short and the whole morning feels relaxed. From the west-coast beaches further north it's a longer transfer, but still nothing like the early starts on the Similan or Phi Phi sunrise trips. More about the pier itself on our Rawai pier page.

And if the weather looks doubtful, tell the manager in the chat. Times are approximate and the route can change with the sea; if the authorities close it, the trip moves to another date.

Kids? Ages 4 to 9 pay the child price, ten and up pay as adults.

    How do I book?

Send the date, your hotel and everyone's ages in the chat. The manager confirms the pickup time and the total, and payment by card online is agreed in the chat once the booking is confirmed.

Questions about the kids or the pickup point go in the same message.

The guide on this trip speaks English. If the alternative is a Phi Phi day, Coral Island or Bamboo Island compares the two beach days.
