Phuket Sightseeing Tours: Old Town, Wat Chalong and Big Buddha in Half a Day
By the PhuketGO tour desk on Phuket — we book and run these trips every week · Updated 28 September 2026
Our Phuket sightseeing tour fits Karon Viewpoint, Promthep Cape, the Big Buddha viewpoint, Wat Chalong, the Old Town and Rang Hill into about six hours, with pickup at 08:45, drop-off at 15:00 and no shopping stops. Take it in your first days if you want the island to make sense quickly; if the Old Town is what you really came for, its stop will feel short, so walk it separately.
Tours and prices in Thai baht
| Tour | Duration | Adult | Child 4–9 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phuket sightseeing: the island in half a day | About six hours | 1,050 ฿ | 950 ฿ |
| Rafting and the elephant spa | One day, nine hours or more | 1,550 ฿ | 1,350 ฿ |
Prices come straight from our booking system. Children under four join free on most trips — each tour page says so.
What the tour covers, stop by stop
We pick you up at 08:45. Traffic can push that by as much as two hours, which is why we confirm the time with you in the chat. First comes Karon Viewpoint at half past nine, with Kata Noi, Kata and Karon laid out in one curve. Half an hour later, the windmill viewpoint. By 10:30 you're at Promthep Cape, the island's southern tip, and at 10:50 you're in the Chao Le sea gypsy market, all fresh seafood.
Late morning is temples (and one elephant). The Big Buddha viewpoint at 11:20. A baby elephant to feed at 11:45. Wat Chalong at 12:30. After that the minibus rolls past the Thai boxing street, drops you in the Old Town at 13:25 among the Sino-Portuguese shophouses, and climbs Rang Hill at two, where you can feed the wild monkeys. You're back at the hotel at three.
One thing the card doesn't give is minutes per stop. It lists arrival times, and every gap includes the drive. Weather can shuffle things, and if you're staying in Rawai or Nai Harn you skip the viewpoint over your own beach. All the times are on the sightseeing tour card.
How long you get at the Old Town, Wat Chalong and the Big Buddha
Honestly? Not long. That's the trade-off with a six-hour loop. Wat Chalong at 12:30, next stop at 13:05. Old Town at 13:25, Rang Hill at 14:00. Driving eats into both.
Our own place guides budget far more: an hour to an hour and a half for Wat Chalong if you want the stupa and the monks' hall, two to three hours on foot for Phuket Old Town. So treat the tour as the overview. If one place grabs you, go back.
At the Big Buddha you stop at the viewpoint by the statue. The statue itself is 45 metres of white marble on Nakkerd hill, open in daylight, roughly 6 am to 7 pm; more in our Big Buddha guide.
Is it worth it, and who should skip it
In your first days, yes. You'll come back knowing where Patong, Kata, Rawai and Phuket Town actually are. It's also the easy answer if you'd rather not ride hill roads on a scooter, or if you want temples without being steered into a gem shop: there are no shopping stops in the programme.
Skip it if you like to linger. A photographer chasing morning light in the Old Town is better off with a taxi and our attraction pages. And skip it if it's beaches you're after. Patong, Kata, Karon, Nai Harn and Rawai go by from viewpoints and the minibus window; nobody swims.
- First days on the island, want the layout — the sightseeing tour
- Old Town at your own pace — a separate walk with our Old Town guide
- A cave temple with monkeys outside Phuket — the rafting and elephant spa day
- Sunset at Promthep Cape — an evening on your own; the tour is there at 10:30
What is free, what you pay extra and what to wear
The price covers an air-conditioned minibus, a guide and insurance. No drinks, so bring water and a bit of cash. Want to stay out longer? Each extra hour past the six is 500 ฿, if the group wants one.
None of the main sights sells tickets: our attraction pages list the Big Buddha, Wat Chalong, Promthep Cape and Karon Viewpoint as free, with donation boxes at the temple and the statue. Cover shoulders and knees (men too) and expect to take your shoes off indoors; the temple hires out cover-ups for a fee if you forget. The current tour price sits in the table below, from our booking system.
Guide language, children and pickup
Every tour in our catalogue runs with an English-speaking guide. Worth asking for on a temple day, where the stories matter.
Children from 4 to 9 pay the child price; from ten it's the adult one. We collect you from your hotel: send the tour, the date and your hotel in the chat and we'll confirm the time. Payment is agreed in the chat once the booking is confirmed, and that's when to ask about cancellation too.
Want a temple outside Phuket too?
Then look at Suwan Kuha in Phang Nga, a cave temple with stalactites, monkeys and a reclining Buddha. It's the 09:00 stop on our rafting and elephant spa day, and our Suwan Kuha guide lists the other days that go there. Every sight on Phuket itself, with drive times, is on Phuket attractions.
