Similan islands: the classic day trip
Four islands, two snorkelling stops and the Sail Rock viewpoint, on a big boat
Nine islands of white sand and coral in a national park two hours north of Phuket, visited on a big boat rather than a speedboat — which means a steadier ride, more deck to move around on and a slower pace through the day. Two snorkelling stops, the climb to Sail Rock on island eight, beach time on islands eight and four, and a Thai buffet served on board between them.

Questions we get asked
Big boat or speedboat?
The big boat rides more smoothly and gives you room to move, which matters over a twelve-hour day. The speedboat versions get there faster and leave earlier. Both visit the same islands.
Why do I need my passport?
The national park registers visitors at the pier, so bring your passport or a clear copy of it.
When are the islands open?
The park closes for the monsoon from mid-May to mid-October. Outside that window the trip runs, weather permitting.
