James Bond island and Phang Nga Bay
The rock from the film, sea caves by kayak and lunch in a village on stilts
Phang Nga Bay is the landscape people picture when they think of southern Thailand: vertical limestone towers standing in green water, with caves cut through their bases. You cross it in a traditional longtail boat, land at Ko Tapu — the rock made famous by the Bond film — and then swap the boat for a kayak to get into the caves and hidden lagoons that only open from the water. Lunch is seafood in the Muslim stilt village of Koh Panyi, built out over the sea.

Questions we get asked
Do I have to paddle the kayak myself?
No. A local boatman paddles each kayak through the caves, which is what makes the low passages possible. You sit and look.
Is there swimming on this trip?
This is a bay and cave day rather than a beach day. Bring swimwear if you want it, but most people stay dry apart from their feet.
Is it suitable for older travellers?
Yes — there is no long walking and no speedboat pounding. The boats are longtails on sheltered water, and the pace is slow.
