Land Tours from Phuket: Days Without a Sea Crossing
By the PhuketGO tour desk on Phuket — we book and run these trips every week · Updated 13 October 2026
Our land tours from Phuket never cross the open sea: they travel by road, and the only water transport is a river raft or a longtail on a lake or through calm mangroves. They cover the jungle and elephant days, the Samet Nangshe viewpoint over Phang Nga Bay, Cheow Lan lake in Khao Sok, the Krabi lakes and hot springs, and a half-day sightseeing loop of Phuket itself.
Tours and prices in Thai baht
Prices come straight from our booking system. Children under four join free on most trips — each tour page says so.
Why people choose a land day
Some people get seasick and know it. Some are travelling while pregnant, and some of our boat trips are marked as not recommended for that. Others just want one day of the holiday without salt water and a speedboat. And in the wet months the question becomes practical: our rafting card describes its day as one of the best rainy-day options, because none of it depends on the sea being open, and the Krabi lakes card says the same in its own words.
A land day isn't a dry day, though. Almost all of them involve getting wet — an elephant, a river, a waterfall, a lake or a hot pool. Swimwear under your clothes is on nearly every packing list below. What you skip is the crossing, not the water.
Jungle days with elephants and rafting
Four of our days are jungle days. Rafting and the elephant spa picks up at 06:50, stops at the Suwan Kuha cave temple, puts you on five kilometres of river with an instructor in every raft, then the elephant village — bathing or a ride, one programme included — and a waterfall before leaving at 16:30. Its sister day, rafting, elephant spa and ATV, keeps the same frame, adds 250cc quad bikes on a track with bridges and a tunnel, and makes the elephant programme a ride.
The Khao Lak safari also leaves at 06:50: a cave temple with bats, a local zoo, the full elephant programme including a ride, bamboo rafting or canoeing, a turtle farm, a waterfall and a fruit market, heading back at 16:50. The Avatar world day runs 07:00–19:00 and finishes at the thermal springs on Natai beach at sunset. Park fees are in the price on the rafting days and the safari. Choosing between the last two? See Khao Lak safari or Avatar world. The safari alone, hour by hour, is weighed on Khao Lak safari: is it worth it. Where the Khao Lak safari goes, stop by stop, is on Khao Lak from Phuket.
Samet Nangshe and Phang Nga by road
Three days are built around the viewpoint over Phang Nga Bay, with its limestone islands below. Phang Nga and Samet Nangshe picks up at 06:30 and takes you up by pickup truck around 08:40, then a cave temple, the Black Monk statue, a seafood lunch in the floating village, the full elephant programme with a ride, a waterfall and Mai Khao beach with aircraft overhead. Its only boat is a longtail through the mangroves, and the card says plainly that it stays on flat water.
Phang Nga and the Samet Nangshe skywalk is the same route with a glass bridge at the top and coffee and dessert waiting there. The elephant beach day is gentler: pickup between 07:00 and 08:00, the white temple, the airplane beach, swimming with elephants on a real beach — no riding — then lunch at the viewpoint and Mantra Spa from 15:00 until 18:00.
Cheow Lan lake in Khao Sok
It's a long drive, and the card says so, but the landscape at the end is unlike anything on the coast. The pickup is at 06:00 because the first stop is the sunrise at Samet Nangshe. From there the road goes north to Cheow Lan lake in Khao Sok national park, where a longtail takes you across fresh water between limestone cliffs up to 960 metres high, with lunch at a floating restaurant, fishing for red tilapia and a swim.
A short rainforest walk and Bang Tong temple, where one of the monks paints, close the day before the 17:00 drive back. The card is honest about the cost: around two and a half hours on the road each way. Transfer from anywhere on Phuket is included, and the trip suits children from about three. Torn between the lake and the sea? Cheow Lan lake or James Bond island compares the two days.
Krabi's lakes, hot springs and the Tiger Cave temple
Secrets of Krabi is the early one: pickup between 05:00 and 06:00 and the drive to mainland Krabi. Then a walk in Bang Khram forest park, a swim in the warm mineral water of the Emerald lake, the Blue lake for photographs only, a hot waterfall and thermal springs, lunch, and the Tiger Cave temple, where the 1,260 steps to the top are optional and the monastery at the base is the alternative. Who that long Krabi day suits, and who should skip it, is on is the Secrets of Krabi day trip worth it.
An elephant meeting and the singing cave come last, and you're back around 17:40. Park fees, cave tickets, towels and drinking water are included; feeding the elephant (100 ฿) and the temple offering (50 ฿) are paid on the spot. Bring water shoes for the cave. On the Phuket sightseeing day the temple stops need shoulders and knees covered; the pages on the Big Buddha and Wat Chalong explain what that means at each.
Phuket itself in half a day
If you've just landed and want to know where things are, the sightseeing tour does the island in about six hours: pickup at 08:45, the Karon viewpoint over Kata Noi, Kata and Karon, the windmill viewpoint, Promthep cape, the sea gypsy market, the Big Buddha viewpoint, Wat Chalong, Phuket's old town and the monkeys on Rang Hill, back at 15:00.
There are no shopping stops, which is the reason this tour exists. The beaches are seen from viewpoints and from the bus rather than swum at. Bring clothes that cover shoulders and knees — without them you won't be let into the temple.
Which land day fits you
Start from how early you can get up and how much driving you'll accept. The sightseeing loop and the jungle days near Phuket are the easy end; Cheow Lan and Krabi are long days on the road with a big payoff. If the land day is your break after a Phi Phi trip, day trips after Phi Phi puts these days next to the sea trips you haven't tried yet. On a short stay, three days in Phuket shows where a land day fits.

Questions people ask
Are there tours from Phuket that don't go out on the sea?
Yes, every tour on this page. The jungle days use river rafts, the Phang Nga days add a longtail through calm mangroves, and Cheow Lan crosses a lake by longtail. Secrets of Krabi and the sightseeing tour have no boat at all.
Which land tour is best when the sea is rough?
Any of them. Our rafting card calls it one of the best rainy-day options, and the Krabi lakes card says it runs on days when island trips are cancelled. The programme can still change with the weather.
Which land tour has the earliest pickup?
Secrets of Krabi, between 05:00 and 06:00, then Cheow Lan lake at 06:00. The jungle days start around 06:50–07:00, and the sightseeing tour at 08:45.
Do these tours include an elephant ride?
Some do. The Khao Lak safari, both Phang Nga days and the ATV day include a ride. The rafting day lets you choose bathing or a ride. The elephant beach day is feeding and swimming, with no riding.
Are national park fees included?
On the rafting days, the Khao Lak safari, the Phang Nga days and Secrets of Krabi, yes. On the Avatar world day all entrance fees in the programme are covered, and Cheow Lan includes the boat and the Samet Nangshe entry.
Is there an English-speaking guide?
