Which tours go to Bamboo island?
Phi Phi, Bamboo island and fishing at Rang Yai makes it the first stop, at 09:30 — the sand as soft as flour, before the day gets crowded. On Phi Phi at sunrise you get it from 12:50 to 14:20, an hour and a half of swimming and photos after lunch on Phi Phi Don. Why the sunrise trip reaches Maya Bay first is on Maya Bay at sunrise or after 4 pm. On the two-day trips: the Phi Phi two-day trip at 12:50 on day one, Four pearls at 13:50 on day two, Five pearls at 14:00 on day two. What is it like?
White sand and green, clear water — our cards call it the gem of the archipelago. There is not much to do except swim, float and lie in the sun, which is the point.
On the sunrise trip you pass Mosquito island from the boat on the way there. Closer to Phuket, Khai island or Racha Yai for snorkelling compares two other swimming stops.
How does it fit with Maya Bay?
On the Bamboo and fishing day, Bamboo island is where you actually swim: Maya Bay on that trip is a walk along the boardwalk, with no swimming inside the bay under park rules. So the order — Bamboo first, then the Viking Cave, Pileh Lagoon and Maya Bay — gives you the beach before the famous sights. On days the park closes the bay, it's seen from the boat; see is Maya Bay open.
On the sunrise trip it is the other way round: Maya Bay at seven, Bamboo after lunch.

Which Bamboo trip suits whom?
Bamboo and fishing, for those who want the beach first thing and a rod at the end; in strong wind the captain calls off the fishing. The sunrise trip, for Maya Bay before the crowds with Bamboo as a lazy afternoon — but the pickup is between four and half past four, and the ride is bumpy. The two-day trips, if you want Bamboo as part of a slower Phi Phi with a night on the island.
How do the two-day trips use Bamboo island?
On Phi Phi, two days and one night, Bamboo comes on the first morning at 12:50, after Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, the Viking Cave and a snorkel, just before lunch and check-in on Phi Phi Don. On Four pearls and Five pearls it is on the way home on day two — 13:50 and 14:00 — after Phi Phi Leh and lunch.
Either way, it is the swim-and-lie-down stop of the trip.
Is there a Bamboo island trip for children?
The two-day Phi Phi trip and the Bamboo and fishing day both work for children who like boats; the child price applies from 4 to 9. The sunrise trip, with its 4 am pickup, is harder on small children. For toddlers, a shorter day such as Coral island from Rawai is kinder.
Is Bamboo island open all year?
Our Phi Phi trips run whenever the authorities keep the sea open, and Bamboo island is part of those routes. When the sea is closed on your date, the trip moves to another day or the payment comes back. The order of stops can also change with the tide and weather. Keep a spare day in your plan for that.
What should I bring?
Sun protection above all — there is little shade on the beach, and the white sand reflects. A swim shirt, a hat, water. On the Bamboo and fishing day the national park fee is paid in cash on the day, so bring baht in small notes. How the Bamboo day compares with the Khai day: Phi Phi with Khai or Bamboo island. Yes, with two things in mind: the speedboat legs are fast, so the card suggests a motion sickness tablet half an hour before boarding, and the day runs from a 06:50 pickup to the pier at 16:30. Children come on our sea days from the age of one; under-fours travel free, without a seat or meals.
How long is the fishing stop at Rang Yai and is fishing equipment included?
Rang Yai is the last stop, from about 15:05: rest on the island and deep-water fishing with the captain before the boat heads back to the pier for 16:30. Tackle is included, the crew baits the line and shows you what to do, and in strong wind the captain calls the fishing off.
