How does the classic James Bond island day work?
It starts on the road. We collect you between 07:30 and 08:00, and the drive through mainland Thailand to the pier takes about an hour and a half. At 09:30 you step into a traditional longtail, get the life jacket and the briefing, and spend the late morning weaving between limestone towers. Quiet water. Green, not blue.
Around 11:30 the boat noses onto James Bond island and you get an hour at the rock (everyone takes the same photo; take it anyway). Then the good part — sea kayaks into caves and hidden lagoons that only open from the water. A guide paddles each kayak, so nobody needs experience. Some caves depend on the tide, which is why the order is decided on the day.
Lunch is seafood at a restaurant on stilts, then an hour in Koh Panyi, the Muslim village built out over the sea. It is someone's neighbourhood — cover up and keep your voice down. Back at the pier around 16:30, on Phuket by about 18:00. Under-fours travel free.
Can I see James Bond island by speedboat?
Yes, as part of a bigger loop. The eleven-islands day has breakfast at Royal Phuket Marina at 07:30 and leaves at 09:00. Panak island, the Ice Cream cave with its stalactites, a landing on James Bond island at 10:20, kayaks in the mangroves at Talu, lunch in the stilt village of Panyi. After that it heads to Krabi's Lao Lading and Hong islands and finishes at Phi Phi.
Two overnight trips run the same Phang Nga morning. Four pearls lands on the rock, canoes at Talu, eats in Panyi, then crosses to Railay and sleeps on Phi Phi Don. Five pearls adds the Ice Cream cave and the Hong viewpoint, in the Comfort+ format. Pick these if the rock is one stop among many for you, not the whole point.
Can I see James Bond island at sunrise?
The sunrise trip starts early: pickup at 03:45, arrival at the Beyond Skywalk glass bridge at 05:45 and the sun coming up over Phang Nga Bay at 06:15. Breakfast is a buffet at the restaurant on top, facing the bay, and at 08:00 you go down to the water for a longtail through the caves and uninhabited islands.
On this trip James Bond island is seen from the water, not landed on. The rest of the morning is the airplane beach, where aircraft come in low over the sand, and Ma Doo Bua café with its pond of giant water lilies. You are back at the hotel around 13:00, which leaves the afternoon free. It suits people who care more about the view than about standing next to the rock.
Can I see Phang Nga Bay from above instead?
Phang Nga Bay also looks good from the land side. The Phang Nga and Samet Nangshe day takes pickup trucks up to the Samet Nangshe viewpoint over the bay, then visits Suwan Kuha cave temple and its monkeys, takes a longtail through the mangroves, stops at the sea gypsy floating village for a seafood lunch and spends the afternoon at an elephant camp. It finishes at Mai Khao beach under the landing aircraft.
The skywalk version of that day replaces the open viewpoint with the glass bridge at Samet Nangshe, where you stand out over the edge with coffee and dessert waiting at the top. Neither of these two lands on James Bond island; they are the choice when the bay is the point and the famous rock is optional.
