From Phuket, the Krabi four islands day and the Hong island day are mostly the same trip: our Krabi four islands tour stops at Naka Yai, Pakbia, Hong and Lao Lading, with about two hours on Hong. The route people picture from Krabi town, with Phra Nang beach at Railay and Chicken island, we run only as the two-day Four pearls. If Hong's viewpoint is the point, a one-day boat from Phuket gets you there; if Railay is, plan a night on Phi Phi.

Why the two names get mixed up
Ask three agencies for a Krabi four islands tour and you get three different lists. Leaving from Krabi itself, the name usually means a short hop around Railay and Chicken island. Leaving from Phuket, the boats have a long way to cross first, so they go where the long stops are: Hong, Pakbia, Lao Lading, a sandbar at sunset. That is why a Phuket Hong island tour and a Phuket Krabi four islands tour look almost identical on paper.
Ours is a good example. Krabi tropical paradise is sold as the four islands day, and Hong is its longest stop. So the real question is a different one: do you want Hong with time to climb and swim, or Railay and Chicken island? Different days, different prices.
The Krabi four islands day, hour by hour
You are at the pier at 09:00 and the speedboat leaves at 10:00. The pier itself comes in your booking confirmation, because the same trip can use different piers. Half an hour later you are on Naka Yai for about ninety minutes, then Pakbia at 12:40 for forty minutes, a sand spit you can walk when the tide is out.
Hong comes at 13:30 and gets about two hours: the beach, the climb to the viewpoint, and a snorkel off the island at 15:40. After that Lao Lading for fifty minutes, a sunset on the sandbar at 17:50, and the boat heads back at 18:30. Bus and boat transfer, park fees, lunch, soft drinks, a cocktail in a coconut, fruit, masks, life jackets, a guide and insurance are in the price. Nothing extra to pay on the day except what you buy.
Where Railay and Chicken island come in
On Four pearls, which takes two days. Pickup is at 06:50, the boat leaves around 08:50 and day one runs through Phang Nga Bay first: Panak island, James Bond island at 10:10, a canoe at Talu, lunch in the Koh Panyi stilt village. At 13:50 you land at Phra Nang beach on Railay, with the fertility cave. At 16:05 come the Twin islands and Chicken island, a snorkel over the reef, and a hotel on Phi Phi Don by evening.
Day two is Phi Phi Leh: Maya Bay at 09:00, a swim in Pileh lagoon, Viking cave, Monkey beach, then Bamboo island in the afternoon and the pier at 16:30. Two lunches, a dinner, breakfast and the hotel are included. The viewpoint on Phi Phi Don costs 50 ฿ on the spot. Note what is missing: Hong. Four pearls trades it for Railay.
Hong and James Bond island in one go
Two more of our trips put Hong after a morning in Phang Nga Bay. The eleven-islands day collects you at 06:00, serves breakfast at Royal Phuket Marina and leaves at 09:00. James Bond island comes at 10:20, kayaks at Talu at 11:00, lunch in the floating village, Lao Lading at 12:50, and Hong at 14:00 for the beach and the viewpoint. Then Phi Phi Don, Maya Bay and Pileh lagoon, back at the pier at 18:40 and at your hotel around 20:00.
Five pearls follows almost the same morning and reaches Hong at 14:20 on day one, with a swim and the climb, before a night on Phi Phi Don. Shorter stops, more islands, a longer day. Which Hong is which, Krabi or Phang Nga, is untangled on which Hong island is on a James Bond tour.

Which one fits your trip
With small children, the four islands day is the gentle one: a 09:00 pier call instead of a pre-dawn pickup, long stops, calm swimming. Children 4–9 pay the child price, from ten it is the adult ticket. The eleven-islands day is a fourteen-hour door-to-door marathon; I would not take a toddler on it.
If you are in Phuket for a week and only one Krabi day fits, the four islands day gives Hong the most time for the least money.
