Monkey Beach, Phi Phi: Which Tours Stop and What to Expect

Monkey Beach is a small beach in Yong Kasem bay on Phi Phi Don where wild monkeys come down to the sand. Almost every Phi Phi trip we sell stops there, some for a swim and snorkel, some just slowing down to watch from the boat.

Which tours stop, and do you land?
On Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Khai island the stop comes at 10:15 as part of the crossing to Phi Phi Don, with swimming and snorkelling. Phi Phi at sunrise stops at 09:50. The Bamboo and fishing day at 14:05; the eleven-islands day at 16:10. That Khai island day is weighed on is the Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Khai speedboat worth it.
On the catamaran it is watched from the boat at 14:15. The two-day trips pass on day two — Four pearls at 11:00, Five pearls at 11:30, the Phi Phi two-day trip at 14:30. Are the monkeys safe to be near?
They are wild, and they know boats mean food. Watch from a step away, keep bags closed and sunglasses on your face, and do not wave snacks around. With children, hold their hands at this stop.
The guide will say whether that day's stop is a swim or a look from the water; follow the call.
Is there another Monkey Beach?
There is a Monkey Beach on the jet ski route too, north-east of Phuket, at 10:00 on that four-hour tour — a different place from the one on Phi Phi. What comes before and after?
Monkey Beach sits between the Phi Phi Don stops and Phi Phi Leh, so it usually comes next to lunch on Phi Phi Don, the snorkelling off the island, the Viking Cave and Pileh Lagoon. On the sunrise trip it is followed by the climb to the Phi Phi Don viewpoint or free time in the village.
It is a short stop on every route — a highlight for photos, not a place to spend the afternoon.
What does the stop look like on the Khai island day?
It is part of the crossing to Phi Phi Don at 10:15 — swimming and snorkelling, then on to the buffet lunch on shore at 12:15, with vegetarian dishes. After lunch the boat goes to Phi Phi Leh for the Viking Cave and Pileh Lagoon, and Maya Bay closes the day at 15:15.
Pickup is at 07:30 and the boat leaves Chalong at 09:15, so Monkey Beach comes early enough that the monkeys and the swimmers are both fresh. The Khai island stop itself, set against Racha Yai, is on Khai island or Racha Yai for snorkelling.
And on the two-day trips?
It comes on day two, on the way home from Phi Phi Leh. On the Phi Phi two-day trip, at 14:30 after lunch, followed by a snorkel off Phi Phi Don and Rang Yai. On Four pearls at 11:00 and on Five pearls at 11:30, both in Yong Kasem bay.
Staying the night means you also get Phi Phi Don itself in the evening and early morning — the village, the viewpoint, the beach — which the day boats never see.
What about the monkeys on the jet ski tour?
That Monkey Beach is on the four-hour jet ski route from AA Marina pier, the third stop at 10:00 after Mali island and a snorkel over the reef at Naka island. You drive your own jet ski (minimum age 18), and hotel transfer is not included on that tour.
What should I have with me at the stop?
Swimwear on, a mask if you want to snorkel (they are included on the boat), a dry bag for the phone, and nothing edible in your hands. Sunglasses stay on your face, not on your head, and bags stay closed.
If the guide says the stop is from the boat that day, it is because of the sea or the schedule — not a shortcut.
Which trip for Monkey Beach with children?
The Khai island day: Monkey Beach comes mid-morning, after the easiest first snorkel there is at Khai, and the day ends around 16:15 at Chalong. Children aged 4 to 9 pay the child price. The sunrise trip is harder on small children because of the four o'clock pickup.
Can I see it on a short day?
Not really — Monkey Beach is on Phi Phi, and every Phi Phi day is a full day. The shortest is the sunrise trip, back at the pier at 15:30; the classic Khai island day is back at Chalong around 16:15.
Which Phi Phi trip should I choose for it?
Any of them — the stop is on all the Phi Phi routes. Choose by the rest of the day: the Khai island day for a gentle first snorkel, the sunrise trip for Maya Bay before the crowds, the catamaran for the late light. The Phi Phi tours page compares them.
