Rawai Pier, Phuket: Short Boat Trips from the South
By the PhuketGO tour desk on Phuket — we book and run these trips every week · Updated 28 September 2026
Rawai pier is at the very south of Phuket, at the end of Rawai beach, about ten minutes south of the Chalong roundabout. From Nai Harn it is five minutes, from Kata about twenty-five, from Patong around fifty — and it is one of the few sea points on the island the public songthaew actually reaches.

What leaves from Rawai pier?
Short trips. Rawai is closest to Koh Bon and Coral island, and calm boats to Racha go from here too. Mornings start with fishermen, not tourists: sea-gypsy boats come back with the catch while the groups are still assembling.
Our trip from here is Coral island from Rawai pier. Meet at 08:30 for coffee and tea, cross in about half an hour, spend the morning on Coral Beach, eat lunch on the island, snorkel at Hin Dam bay, and be back at the pier at 14:00. The group is up to twenty. Every tour in our catalogue runs with an English-speaking guide.
Short, easy, done by lunch.
How do I get to Rawai?
Rawai is the last lived-in stretch of coast before Promthep cape, so everything north of it drives down the island. Nai Harn: five to ten minutes over a small neck of land. Kata: up the hill past the viewpoint over the three beaches and down to Nai Harn, about twenty-five minutes. Chalong: ten minutes straight along the east coast. Patong: about fifty minutes either way, along the sea via Karon and Kata or through the middle of the island.
Phuket Town is about forty minutes by car. From the north and the airport it is an hour and a half — I would not plan a morning boat that way at all. The blue songthaew from Phuket Town runs from the market through Chalong to Rawai beach in about an hour, with the first ones leaving town early.
Can I hire a longtail at Rawai myself?
Yes. Go to the boatmen's hut at the start of the pier; a board there lists destinations and crossing times. Pick an island and agree straight away when the boat collects you — the longtail waits off the beach until the agreed hour.
Ask about the tide: at low water boats leave from the far end of the pier, at high water they come closer to the shore. Take cash, water and your own mask; the choice of gear on the near islands is modest. Prefer an organised trip from this pier? Ask in the chat and we will match one to the day and the weather.
What does the Coral island half day look like hour by hour?
08:30 — coffee and tea at Rawai pier, and you meet the guide and crew. 09:00 — off across the Andaman Sea. 09:30 — Coral Beach, and the morning is yours: swimming, the sand, water activities if you want them. 12:00 — lunch on the island, seafood and Thai dishes. 13:00 — the boat moves round to Hin Dam bay on the far side of the island for snorkelling. 14:00 — back at Rawai and into the minivan.
Included: the air-conditioned transfer, the guide and crew, insurance, the national park fee, coffee and tea at the pier, lunch, soft drinks, life jackets and masks. Not included: water sports on the beach, alcohol, souvenirs. The child price applies from 4 to 9.
Why choose a Rawai trip over Chalong?
Less road, less time at sea, back after lunch. For a first morning on Phuket, for small children, or for anyone who wants a sea day that leaves the evening free, the Rawai half day is the easy start. For Racha and Coral as a full day, the speedboat from Chalong is the one.

Rawai is also a good place to arrive early and wait. The sea-gypsy fishing boats come in with the catch while the tour groups are still gathering, and watching them is a decent way to spend twenty minutes before your group meets. If you are staying in Nai Harn or Rawai itself, this is the least effort any sea day on Phuket asks of you.
