Phuket Sunday Walking Street market (Lard Yai)
Lard Yai is Phuket's Sunday walking street: every Sunday Thalang Road in the old town shuts to cars and fills with food stalls, handmade toys and a stage for local singers and dancers. It starts in the afternoon and runs into the evening. Aim to arrive around sunset, and come by taxi — you won't find parking.

What the market is like
Thalang is the old town's best-kept street, all painted shophouses and arcades. On Sunday it belongs to pedestrians. Stalls go up down both sides, a stage appears, families come out. Less shopping trip, more a slow neighbourhood walk with something sweet in your hand — probably the cosiest evening Phuket Town has.
What's on the tables? Food mostly. Local sweets, pastries, snacks you eat standing up. Then handmade toys, small crafts. On the stage, local groups sing and dance. And behind all of it, those facades: the reason to come to town in the first place.
Timing and getting there
Sunset is the sweet spot. An hour or two later the street is shoulder to shoulder and you move at a shuffle.
It's thirty minutes to an hour from the west-coast beaches. Take a taxi. Parking in the centre is tight on a normal day; on Sunday evening forget it. Sort the ride back before you go in, or expect a wait.
Better still, make a day of it. Walk the old town in the late morning, drive up Khao Rang hill for the view over the rooftops, then come back down as the stalls light up.
Other weekend markets
Don't mix it up with Naka. That one runs on Saturday and Sunday evenings near the edge of town: much bigger, clothes and household stuff and a lot of street food, cheaper than the beach shops. Lard Yai is smaller and it's about one historic street.
Only a few days on the island? Pick Lard Yai. You get the old town and the market in the same evening.
Seeing it with us
The market runs only on Sunday evenings and is not part of our tours, but our half-day sightseeing tour stops in the old town during the day.
About six hours with hotel pickup and no shopping stops. The tour runs with an English-speaking guide.

When is the Phuket Sunday Walking Street market?
Every Sunday on Thalang Road in the old town, from the afternoon until the evening.
What can I buy there?
Food, mainly — local sweets, pastries, snacks. Also handmade toys and little crafts. There's a stage with local music and dancing too.
What time should I go?
Around sunset. Come much later and the street is packed; you'll barely move.
How do I get there from Patong or Kata?
Taxi is best. It's thirty minutes to an hour from the west-coast beaches, and parking in the old town on a Sunday night is close to impossible.
Is it the same as the Naka weekend market?
No. Naka is the big weekend market near the edge of town on Saturdays and Sundays. Lard Yai is the Sunday street market inside the old town.
What can I combine it with?
A walk around the old town and a drive up Khao Rang hill in the afternoon. Then back down for the market.
