How Far in Advance Should I Book a Phuket Tour?
By the PhuketGO tour desk on Phuket — we book and run these trips every week · Updated 28 September 2026
For a regular group tour, two or three days ahead is usually enough. Book earlier — around a week in high season — for sunrise trips, the Similans, the two-day trips and holiday weeks, because those boats fill first.

Can I book for tomorrow?
Often, on the popular near-island routes — Racha and Coral, the classic Phi Phi day. What shrinks by then is choice: fewer seats, less say in the date. Sunrise and far-away trips are usually full by the day before.
Send the tour and the date in the chat and we will tell you straight away whether there is space.
Which trips should I book early?
Sunrise departures: fewer boats, and plenty of people who want Maya Bay or Racha Yai without the crowds. The Similans: the park is open only half the year and trips depend on the weather, so a free date is worth more than any saving. The two-day trips with a hotel night on Phi Phi Don. And any date in high season or on holiday weeks.
For those, about a week ahead is comfortable.
Should I book before I fly?
For the one trip you care most about, it helps — you get the date you want and read the programme calmly, instead of choosing the evening before from what is left. Just do not put it on your arrival day: after a flight, an early pickup is hard, and we would rather you enjoyed it.
Keep a spare day after any sea trip in case the authorities close the sea.
What happens after I book?
We confirm the tour, the date and the total for your group in the chat; payment is agreed there, and the booking holds once it is paid in full. The evening before, you get the pickup time. If the sea is closed on your date, the trip moves to another day or the payment comes back.
If you cancel yourself less than 24 hours before, miss the transfer or do not show up, the payment is not returned.
Does booking early change the price?
No. The price in the table on each tour page is the same whenever you book; it comes straight from our booking system. Booking early buys you the date, not a discount. Check the current figure on tour prices.
In the chat we confirm the total for your group, including child prices, before you pay anything. There is nothing to add on the day except the extras named on the card.
What about sunrise trips specifically?
Book those first. Phi Phi at sunrise, Racha at sunrise, the skywalk sunrise and the early Similan boat run with fewer boats, and the point of each is the empty beach or bridge at dawn. A few days ahead in low season, a week in high season, is a sensible margin.
Can I change the date after booking?
Ask in the chat as early as you can. Moving a date is usually far easier than a late cancellation; less than 24 hours before departure, the payment is not returned. If the weather cancels the trip, the move or refund is automatic.
Do holiday weeks matter?
Yes. On holiday weeks and in the busiest months, boats fill earlier across the board, and the choice of dates narrows even for the near islands. Plan about a week ahead then, and keep a spare day in the schedule.
Is there a minimum notice for any trip?
Not a fixed one on the cards. In practice, the evening before is the latest we can arrange a pickup, and some trips will simply be full by then. The earlier you ask, the more choice you have.
What is the best order to book a week of tours?
Far and early trips first — the Similans, sunrise boats, the two-day trips — then the classic Phi Phi or James Bond island day, then near-island and land days last. The first group fills and depends on weather; the last is the easiest to add or move once you are on the island.
What about a larger group?
The bigger the group, the earlier. Group sizes are capped on each trip — twelve on the Avatar world day, twenty on Coral island from Rawai and the fishing boat, twenty-five on Four pearls, thirty on the classic Similan day, up to forty on the rafting days. A family of six on a trip capped at twenty needs a date with space.
Send everyone's ages with the dates; it decides the price and the life jacket sizes.
