James Bond Island or Coral Island from Phuket: Which Tour?

By the PhuketGO tour desk on Phuket — we book and run these trips every week · Updated 12 October 2026

Honestly, these two have so little in common that the choice usually makes itself. James Bond island means cliffs, caves and a kayak somebody else paddles, and Coral Island means sand, snorkelling and a long lunch by the water: the James Bond longtail day at 2,000 ฿ against 1,400 ฿ for the Racha and Coral speedboat or the Coral Island trip from Rawai. Everything else we run there sits on James Bond island tours and Racha and Coral island tours.

    How does each day run?

James Bond first. The minivan comes at 07:30–08:00, it's an hour and a half to Phang Nga, and you swap it for a longtail at 09:30. Cliffs, more cliffs, then James Bond island itself around half past eleven. After the photos a boatman paddles you by kayak into the caves (you just sit), lunch is seafood on stilts, and Koh Panyi, the village on the water, is the last stop. Hotel around 18:00.

Coral is lazier. On the Racha and Coral speedboat you're at Chalong pier by 08:30, and forty minutes after leaving you're swimming at Patok Bay on Racha Yai. Coral Island comes next: lunch at half past twelve, then water sports or a nap, your call, until 16:00. The Rawai trip skips Racha. It meets at Rawai pier at 08:30, lands on Coral Island at 09:30, eats at noon, snorkels in Hin Dam bay at 13:00 and is back by two.

    Which is better with children?

Coral Island, for most families. Short crossing, lots of sand and shallow water, and the Rawai version is over by early afternoon. Kids 4–9 pay 1,300 ฿ on either Coral trip; under-fours go free. Our card does say you should be able to swim for the snorkelling, and the speedboat can bounce.

James Bond island works with kids too. It's calmer on the water, everyone's in a life jacket, and nobody has to paddle. The catch is the road: three hours in a minivan, there and back. Children 4–9 pay 1,800 ฿, under four free. Pack a spare set of clothes for after the kayak; the James Bond card recommends it.

What's included, and what costs extra?

On the James Bond day the price covers the hotel transfer, the longtail, the kayak with its guide and gear, the seafood lunch, life jackets, drinks and fruit on board, the park tickets and insurance. You'd only spend more on drinks at the restaurant, souvenirs in the village and tips.

Racha and Coral speedboat: hotel transfer, the speedboat, lunch on Coral Island, a mask and snorkel, life jackets, water, soft drinks, fruit, the island fees and insurance. The water sports are paid on the beach: parasailing 1,000–1,500 ฿ a flight, the banana boat and similar rides 300–500 ฿, jet skis 800–1,200 ฿ for half an hour. The Rawai trip includes the park fee, coffee at the pier and lunch on the island. All three run with an English-speaking guide.

    So which one?

Our rule of thumb. If you came for photos nobody at home has seen, book James Bond island. If you came for the beach, book Coral, and add a parasail if you're feeling brave. Toddlers, or only half a day to spare? The Rawai trip. And if boats turn your stomach, the longtail stays inside the bay, whereas the speedboat ride to Racha Yai is forty minutes and our card admits it can rock.

Weather can change either programme, and on a windy week the sheltered bay is the safer bet. The third big option, Phi Phi, is weighed against both on Phi Phi or Coral Island and Phi Phi or James Bond island. To book, message us on WhatsApp with the trip, the date, your hotel and everyone's ages. Payment is agreed in the chat after the booking is confirmed.

Worth knowingJames Bond island is cliffs, caves and a kayak in a calm bay, a full day. Coral Island is a beach and snorkelling day with paid water sports, and the Rawai version is done by 14:00.

James Bond island for scenery, caves and the kayak; Coral Island for a beach day with swimming, snorkelling and water sports.

Which is cheaper, James Bond island or Coral Island?

    Coral Island: 1,400 ฿ for adults and 1,300 ฿ for children 4–9. The James Bond day is 2,000 ฿ and 1,800 ฿.

Can you swim on the James Bond island tour?

It's not a swimming day. The water part is the kayak through the caves, with a boatman paddling. For swimming, pick Coral Island.

Do I need cash on the Coral Island day?

Only for extras. Parasailing, the banana boat and jet skis are paid on the beach, so bring cash if you want them.

Is hotel pickup included on both?

Yes, hotel transfer both ways is included on the James Bond day and on both Coral Island trips.
