Is the Phi Phi sunrise trip worth the 4 am pickup?

For Maya Bay, yes. We collect you between four and half past four, hand out breakfast boxes at the pier at 05:25, and the boat leaves at 05:50. Around 06:15 the sun comes up while you are in open water. Then, from seven to eight, you are in Maya Bay — before anyone else arrives.

The rest is the full Phi Phi loop: Pileh Lagoon, the Viking Cave, a snorkel, Phi Phi Don for lunch, Bamboo island in the afternoon. Back on the pier at 15:30. Park fees are included. What about Racha Yai at sunrise?

Our quiet favourite. Pickup 04:30–05:00 with a breakfast box, boat at 06:00, sunrise over the water about half an hour later. You step onto Racha Yai at 06:40 and the beach is — mostly — yours.

Deep-water fishing starts around half past nine. Lunch is on Coral island, park fees and snorkelling gear are included, and the Comfort+ extras mean Wi-Fi on board and wine and ice cream on the way home. Back at the pier at 15:30.

Which sunrise trip leaves my afternoon free?

The glass skywalk. Pickup at 03:45 (the earliest of the lot), arrival at the Beyond Skywalk bridge above Phang Nga Bay at 05:45, sunrise at about 06:15. Breakfast is a buffet at the restaurant on top, still facing the bay.

Then a longtail through the caves and islands, past James Bond island, the airplane beach where the jets come in low, and Ma Doo Bua café with its giant water lilies. You are back at the hotel around 13:00 — the only sunrise trip here that hands you the whole afternoon.

Are there other early trips worth the alarm?

Three more. The early Similan boat collects you between four and five and puts you on Miang island at eight, well ahead of the big groups (park open mid-October to mid-May only; not for children under four). The sunrise fishing boat is gentler — pickup 05:30–06:30, off from Chalong at seven — and the logic is simple: whoever leaves first fishes the spots nobody has worked yet.

And Cheow Lan lake. We leave at six, and the first stop is the Samet Nangshe viewpoint with the light coming up over Phang Nga Bay. After that, a long drive north into Khao Sok and a longtail across the lake.

What does the rest of a sunrise day look like?

On Phi Phi, after Maya Bay: a swim in Pileh Lagoon at half past eight, the Viking Cave, one of the better snorkel spots, Monkey Beach, then Phi Phi Don — climb the viewpoint or just sit in the village. Lunch. Bamboo island from ten to one until twenty past two. It is a full day that happens to start in the dark.

On Racha, the morning stretches to 10:30 (kayaks and paddleboards cost extra on the spot), then a reef stop and a long, lazy lunch on Coral island. On the skywalk trip you are eating breakfast at 06:45 and on the longtail by eight. On the fishing boat, the first two hours are trolling, and lunch at Racha Yai is cooked from whatever you caught.

How do I survive a 4 am pickup?

Pack the night before. Swimsuit on under your clothes. Bring a warm layer — the sea before sunrise is cold, and several of our cards say so in writing. Breakfast comes as a box or at the pier, so do not bother with the hotel. A small torch on the phone helps too: hotel paths are dark at four.

Small kids? Honestly, the pickup is harder on them than the day. Older children usually love it. Send the date and hotel in the chat, and we confirm the exact pickup time the evening before. If a sunrise trip is cancelled for weather, it moves to another date or the payment comes back.
