One Island or Several in a Day from Phuket?

By the PhuketGO tour desk on Phuket — we book and run these trips every week · Updated 28 September 2026

The more islands in a day, the shorter each stop: our Coral island half day gives you a whole morning on one beach, while the eleven-islands run spends minutes at each place over about fourteen hours. Pick by what you want to remember — a lazy beach, or a list.

What does a one-island day feel like?

Slow. On Coral island from Rawai you are on Coral Beach at 09:30 and the morning is yours until lunch at noon. Then one move — round to Hin Dam bay to snorkel — and back at the pier at 14:00.

The Racha and Coral speedboat is the two-island version: Patok Bay on Racha Yai from 09:40 to noon, then the afternoon on Coral island until the boat leaves at four. Long stays, short crossings.

    And island hopping?

Busier, and more to see. The classic Phi Phi day stops at Khai, Phi Phi Don, the Viking Cave, Pileh Lagoon and Maya Bay between 09:45 and 16:15. Krabi tropical paradise does four islands — Naka Yai for ninety minutes, Pakbia for forty, Hong for two hours, Lao Lading for fifty — plus a sunset on a sandbar.

The eleven-islands day is the extreme: Panak at 09:30, the Ice Cream cave at 09:40, James Bond island at 10:20, Talu at 11:00, Panyi at 11:40, and on through Krabi to Phi Phi. Fourteen hours door to door.

    Which is better value?

Depends on what you count. Per island, the long runs look generous. Per hour in the water or on the sand, the one- and two-island days win easily, and they cost less — the table below shows current prices.

Our honest view: for a first sea day, fewer islands. You will enjoy them more, and you will know whether a twelve-hour day is for you.

    Who suits which?

One or two islands: families with small kids, anyone seasick, people who want to swim and read and not move. Several: first-time visitors who want to see the famous bays, photographers, groups of friends with energy.

A good pattern for a week: one short day early (Coral or Racha), one famous hopping day (Phi Phi or Krabi), and one land day in between.

How much time do you really get at each stop?

Going by the cards: on Racha and Coral, about two hours twenty on Racha Yai and the whole afternoon on Coral island. On Krabi tropical paradise, ninety minutes on Naka Yai, forty on Pakbia, two hours on Hong, fifty on Lao Lading, forty for the sunset. On the classic Phi Phi day, half an hour at Khai, about two hours on Phi Phi Don with lunch, an hour at Maya Bay.

On the eleven-islands day the stops come every ten to forty minutes in the morning — Panak, the Ice Cream cave, James Bond island, Talu, Panyi — and the Phi Phi part runs from 16:00 to about 18:00.

    What about the two-day trips?

They solve the dilemma by adding a day. Phi Phi, two days and one night covers Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, the Viking Cave, a snorkel and Bamboo island on day one, with lunch and a night on Phi Phi Don, then Monkey Beach, another snorkel and Rang Yai on day two. Four and Five pearls add Phang Nga Bay and Krabi.

More places, but at a walking pace, with an evening and a morning on the island in between.

Is there a land version of the same choice?

Yes. The Phuket sightseeing tour hops between viewpoints, the Big Buddha, Wat Chalong and the old town in about six hours, while Cheow Lan lake spends most of the day on one lake in Khao Sok. Same trade-off: many stops, or one place properly.

How do I choose between the hopping days?

Phi Phi for the famous bays, Krabi for a calmer day ending in a sunset, the eleven-islands run to see three regions at once. Compare them on island tours or how long by boat, or just send your dates and hotel in the chat.

Whatever you choose, remember the sea decides the programme: stops can be reordered for the tide, and if the authorities close the sea the trip moves or the money comes back. With fewer islands there is simply less to reshuffle, which makes the short days the reliable choice in the windy months.

Worth knowingOn hopping days the guide calls a meeting time at every stop. Keep to it — the next island has its own park schedule, and a late group eats into everyone's time there.
