# Similan Islands with Children from Phuket: Which Boat and What Price?

**Short answer:** Yes, on the classic Similan day: a big boat, pickup between 05:30 and 06:30, the child price for ages 4 to 9, and under-fours free (no separate seat or meals). The early boat is another story, with a wake-up around half past three, and its card doesn't recommend it for children under four. Both run only in the park season, mid-October to mid-May.

## Which Similan boat suits a child?

The classic one, for most families. [The Similan islands day trip](https://phukeo.com/en/tours/similan-islands) goes on a big boat, not a speedboat, with up to 30 people on board. Why does that matter with kids? A steadier ride, and deck space to walk around on over a twelve-hour day. The start is early. But it's a normal early.

The [early departure](https://phukeo.com/en/tours/similan-islands-early) is a speedboat. Pickup between 04:00 and 05:00, off the pier at 06:00, onto the islands ahead of the main groups, when the sea is usually calmer. Its card says plainly that it isn't recommended for children under four, because of that start. A ten-year-old who loves snorkelling and sleeps in the van? Fine. A toddler, no.

## What does a child pay, and what's included?

The child price is for ages 4 to 9; from ten the adult price applies. On the classic day, under-fours travel free without a separate seat or meals. The table above has both tariffs for both boats.

The classic day includes hotel transfer from Phuket and Khao Lak, breakfast and a buffet lunch, drinking water, coffee, tea and fruit, a mask and snorkel, life jackets, the national park fee, insurance and an English-speaking guide. The early boat adds fins, towels, breakfast at the pier and a lunch box; for the park fee on that boat, confirm it when you book. Tell us each child's age in the booking so the right life jacket sizes are on board.

## How long is the day for a child?

Long. On the classic trip the van collects you between 05:30 and 06:30 and drives about an hour and a half to Tablamu pier in Khao Lak. The boat leaves at 07:30 with breakfast on board. Island 9 at 09:00 for the first snorkel, island 8 at 10:00 for the climb to Sail Rock and at 11:00 for the beach, lunch on the boat at 12:30, island 7 at 13:30 for the second snorkel, island 4 at 14:30. You're back at the pier and in the van between 15:30 and 18:00.

The early boat goes from the same pier. Miang (island 4) at 08:00, open-water snorkelling around islands 7 and 9 at 10:10, island 8 with lunch and Sail Rock at 11:30, heading home at 14:00, hotels around 17:00. If you're staying in Khao Lak rather than Phuket, the drive shrinks, which is why [Similan from Phuket or from Khao Lak](https://phukeo.com/en/excursions/similan-islands-from-phuket-or-khao-lak) matters more for families than for anyone.

## Can a child snorkel at the Similans?

With a life jacket and an adult alongside, yes, but this is not Khai. The snorkelling stops at islands 9 and 7 are over reef, and on the early boat the snorkel is in open water between islands, where turtles are often seen. Children who can swim get the most from it. For a child who can't, the beach stops at islands 8 and 4 are where the day is fun: white sand, a swim close to shore.

Travelling with grandparents too? The classic card says the trip is not suitable during pregnancy or with back or knee problems. If you're not sure the Similans are right at all, [Similan or Coral island](https://phukeo.com/en/excursions/similan-or-coral-island) compares the long day with the short one.

## Toilets, food and the cold boat

Toilets, a small shop and the park cafe are only on islands 4 and 8, so plan around those stops. Food is covered all day on both boats. Bring a warm layer for everyone: on the boat it can be cold, especially before sunrise on the early trip. A passport or a copy for each traveller too, as the park registers visitors at the pier.

Seasickness? The Similans sit well offshore, and the crossing takes up to two hours each way. If your child gets queasy in cars, bring the motion sickness tablets you already use for them; both cards suggest them.

## When can we go, and how do we book?

The Similan national park closes for the monsoon from 15 May to 15 October, and our Similan trips don't run in those months; [are the Similan islands open](https://phukeo.com/en/faq/are-similan-islands-open) has the season. Weather can still change the programme. Send the date, your hotel and every child's age in the chat; we confirm the pickup time and the total, and payment is agreed in the chat after the booking is confirmed. Where the toilets and the shop are, and what children do there, see [Koh Miang, Similan island 4](https://phukeo.com/en/guide/koh-miang-similan).

## Worth knowing

With a child under four, take the classic big-boat day or a shorter trip; the early speedboat is not recommended for them. Children aged 4 to 9 pay the child price on both Similan boats.

## FAQ

### Is the early Similan trip suitable for young children?

Not for under-fours: the card does not recommend it because of the pickup between 04:00 and 05:00. Older children who swim well and sleep in the van manage it.

### What is the child price for the Similan islands tour?

Children aged 4 to 9 pay the child price shown in the table; from ten the adult price applies. On the classic day, under-fours travel free without a seat or meals.

### Can non-swimming children enjoy the Similans?

Yes, on the beaches of islands 8 and 4, close to shore. The snorkelling stops are over reef or in open water, so a life jacket and an adult alongside are a must.

### Are there toilets on the Similan islands?

Only on islands 4 and 8, together with a small shop and the park cafe. Plan around those two stops with children.

### How long is the Similan day trip with kids?

About twelve hours on the classic boat, from a 05:30 to 06:30 pickup to the return between 15:30 and 18:00, including about an hour and a half by road each way.

### Do children need a passport for the Similan islands?

Bring a passport or a copy for every traveller. The national park registers visitors at the pier.
