# Is Maya Bay Open? Seasonal Closure and Phi Phi Tours from Phuket **Short answer:** Usually yes, from October to the end of July. The national park closes Maya Bay every year for the monsoon, roughly from the start of August to the end of September, and confirms the exact days itself, so we check your date before you book. That's when the southwest monsoon is at its worst, and the park shuts Maya Bay along with Loh Samah and Lo Ko, the two bays next door. The bay gets two months to recover on its own, and nobody has to land tourists on a beach in a rough sea. Come October, it opens again. This isn't tour-company folklore. The park announces the closure through Thailand's Government Public Relations Department, and The Thaiger has quoted the park chief calling it an annual closure. What we won't do is print exact days. The park confirms them season by season, and a date that was right last time can be a few days off for yours. So ask. The park also bans taking anything off the reef and wants reef-safe sunscreen. And forget the film shot of a boat on the sand: boats moor at a pier on the far side of the island now, and you walk over on a boardwalk. You'll swim plenty on the day, just not there. Pileh Lagoon if the tide allows, the snorkel stops, Khai or Bamboo island depending on the trip.
